## Websites and web apps for your business

From a business card site to an app built around your processes. I build fast websites that attract customers and are visible in Google and in AI.

## Web applications built around your processes {#web-applications-built-around-your-processes}

*Custom web application development*

I build **web applications around your company's processes** — dashboards, client portals, internal tools — and I take care of every technical and business aspect.

I combine modern frameworks (Astro, Vue, Laravel) with an analytical look at what your business actually needs. The result is **fast, responsive websites and apps** that turn visitors into customers.

I run the project end to end — from mockup and design to secure deployment and hosting.

## Why most websites underperform {#why-most-websites-underperform}

*WordPress problems*

Most websites are slow, bloated with plugins, and poorly optimized. A WordPress site with a dozen plugins often leaves visitors staring at a **blank screen** before anything appears — and every extra second means lost customers.

The most common issues: lack of mobile responsiveness, poor structure, weak SEO, and security vulnerabilities from outdated plugins.

**Already have a WordPress site that's breaking?** → [See WordPress repair and care packages](https://spoko.space/wordpress-rescue/) (from €100 for emergency fix).

### A WordPress alternative {#a-wordpress-alternative}

I build fast websites without WordPress — using modern technologies that generate lightweight, static HTML. The result? Pages **open quickly**, are secure, and don't require constant plugin updates.

## Websites for small and mid-size businesses {#websites-for-small-and-mid-size-businesses}

*For small business*

Run a small or mid-size business and need a website without paying corporate agency rates? You're in the right place. I build company websites from scratch — no off-the-shelf templates — for clients in services, manufacturing, healthcare, and creative industries.

**What this means in practice for your business:**

- **Design tailored to your brand** — not a variation of a template used by hundreds of other companies in your industry

- **Only the features you actually need** — no plugin bloat typical of off-the-shelf WordPress themes

- **Better SEO and speed** — pages open quickly and Google indexes them without trouble

- **Lower maintenance cost** — no monthly fees for plugin updates and security patches

- **Direct communication** — you work with me, not with a salesperson and a project manager

Typical SMB projects: [business card sites](https://spoko.space/portfolio/) for service companies, company sites with blogs for consulting firms, B2B product catalogs, customer portals, lightweight online stores for local producers.

**Entry-level budget:** from €400 net for a landing page to around €4,000 for a full company site with CMS. [See detailed pricing below](#pricing) or [get in touch](#contact-form) — free quote within 24 hours.

## An online store: when it is the right tool {#an-online-store-when-it-is-the-right-tool}

*Online stores*

A store has to count, not just tell: a catalogue with variants, payments, shipping, order states. I build it on the same stack as everything else — Astro on the front, Laravel behind it — so it is not a separate thing bolted next to the company site.

That means catalogues with variants and attributes, payment and carrier integrations, language and currency versions, and an admin shaped around how your team actually works. My longest e-commerce engagement was [Horze.de](https://spoko.space/horze-salesforce-commerce-cloud/) — almost four years with the Rocksoft team on Salesforce Commerce Cloud: store components, checkout modules, landing pages for seasonal campaigns and Black Friday.

**When a store is not the answer.** With a handful of products, a page with a payment link is usually enough. A marketplace with many sellers and its own logistics needs several people working in parallel — that is software house territory.

## Freelancer, software house, or marketing agency? {#freelancer-software-house-or-marketing-agency}

*Choosing a vendor*

You can hire someone to build your website in three different models. Here is a quick comparison of when each makes sense — no marketing fluff.

|  | Freelancer | Software house | Marketing agency |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Direct contact | with the developer | via project manager | via account manager |
| Cost (company website) | from €600 | from €2,000 | from €1,200 + markup |
| Kick-off time | 1–3 days | 2–4 weeks (quote, contract) | 1–2 weeks |
| Flexibility of changes | high | requires a change request | high, but costly |
| Technical focus | performance, SEO, code | architecture, scalability | marketing + site |

### When a freelancer {#when-a-freelancer}

- Simple to moderately complex website (business card, company site, lightweight e-commerce)

- Direct communication and fast decisions

- Budget up to €4,000

- Emphasis on code quality, Core Web Vitals, and technical SEO

### When a software house {#when-a-software-house}

- Large project (more than 6 months of work)

- Multiple specialties at once (backend + frontend + DevOps)

- Budget €12,000+

- You need a swappable team — one developer's absence doesn't block the project

### When a marketing agency {#when-a-marketing-agency}

- Bundle: website + Google Ads/Meta campaigns + copywriting in one place

- You accept a higher price for the one-stop-shop

- The website is part of a broader marketing strategy

**An honest note:** In this industry, marketing agencies often **outsource development to freelancers anyway** — you pay a markup for the same thing. It's worth asking directly who will actually write the code and whether it's an outside contractor.

## How I build fast websites {#how-i-build-fast-websites}

*Technologies*

I use a lightweight, modern tech stack that keeps the site **fast and secure**.

The same stack runs **my own headless CMS**: pages, subpages, translations and media in one panel, with AI wired in over MCP. I wrote it from scratch and run my own projects on it — [case study](https://spoko.space/custom-cms-with-ai/).

- **Astro** — A framework that generates lightweight, static HTML pages — a solid base for Core Web Vitals and SEO.
- **Vue.js** — Interactive elements — forms, animations, dynamic sections — without slowing down the entire page.
- **TypeScript** — Catches mistakes while the code is being written, before the site goes live.
- **Laravel** — The engine behind web applications: user accounts, payments, integrations — anything that has to run on a server.
- **Filament** — The admin panel you work in day to day — editing content and data without touching code.
- **MariaDB** — Where the data lives. Proven, no licence cost, and it grows with the project.

## What's included in every website? {#whats-included-in-every-website}

*Included*

Every website I build comes with a complete set of features for effective online presence.

- **Custom design** — Unique design tailored to your brand — no off-the-shelf templates.
- **Fast loading** — Images sized for the screen, not the camera, few scripts, no plugin bloat — better SEO and fewer lost customers.
- **Responsive** — Perfect display on phones, tablets, and desktops.
- **SEO optimization** — Page structure and content optimized for Google search.
- **Easy content editing** — A content panel sized to the project: from a simple CMS to my own headless one. Update text and images without a developer.
- **Security** — No WordPress and plugins = no common security vulnerabilities. HTTPS included.
- **WCAG 2.2 AA accessibility** — Contrast, keyboard operation and semantics checked automatically, in both light and dark themes. No separate line in the quote.

## Website development process {#website-development-process}

*How I work*

From the first conversation to a finished website — a clear 5-step process.

- **Needs analysis** — I learn about your business, target audience, and website goals. I define the project scope and timeline together with you.
- **Design** — I create a mockup that you approve before development begins. No surprises.
- **Development** — I code the website using modern technologies. Performance, SEO, and responsiveness are priorities.
- **Revisions & testing** — I check the website across devices and browsers. The form, the phone link and the key pages get automated tests for every later change. Your feedback is incorporated.
- **Launch** — The website goes live — domain configuration and SSL included. Your site is online!

## Tests on every change {#tests-on-every-change}

*Automated tests*

A website keeps changing after launch: a page is added, prices change, someone swaps the photos. Each change can quietly break something next to it, most often the contact form or the phone link. So whatever brings enquiries to your business is checked automatically before every release.

A test is a short scenario written once: a program opens the site the way a customer would, fills in the form, taps the phone number, adds a product to the cart in a store. It runs by itself on every change and stops the release if something no longer works. Visitors keep seeing the previous, working version.

The scope follows the business: the booking form and the phone link for a guesthouse, the cart and checkout for a store, the quote form for a service company. The tests are part of the site you get, like the code, so they stay with it even if you change developers. There is no separate line for them in the quote.

What that means for a business owner and what to ask a developer is in the post [automated website tests: what a business owner gets](https://spoko.space/blog/automated-website-tests-for-business-owners/).

## Frequently asked questions {#frequently-asked-questions}

### How long does it take to build a website? {#faq-how-long-does-it-take-to-build-a-website}

It depends on the project complexity. A landing page takes just a few days to a week. A simple business card site — usually 2–3 weeks. A full company website with CMS — 4–6 weeks.

### How much does a website cost? {#faq-how-much-does-a-website-cost}

Prices start at €400 for a landing page, €600 for a business card site, and €1,200 for a full company website. The exact quote depends on the project scope — get in touch for a free estimate.

### Will the website be fast? {#faq-will-the-website-be-fast}

Yes — speed is my priority. I use Astro, which generates lightweight static HTML with no unnecessary JavaScript, and I trim images, fonts and third-party scripts to what the site actually needs. The PageSpeed score itself is not my target: it is easy to inflate without making any difference to visitors.

### Do you help with SEO? {#faq-do-you-help-with-seo}

Every website is SEO-optimized from the ground up: proper heading structure, meta tags, fast loading, schema markup, and responsiveness. It's a solid foundation for further positioning.

### Can I edit the content myself? {#faq-can-i-edit-the-content-myself}

Yes — for company websites I integrate a content management system (CMS) that lets you easily update text, images, and add new blog posts without a developer.

### Does the website come with automated tests? {#faq-does-the-website-come-with-automated-tests}

Yes. The contact form, the phone link and the most important pages, plus the cart in a store, are checked automatically before every release, long after launch too. If a test fails, the change does not go live. You get the tests together with the site code, with no separate line in the quote.

### Do you issue VAT invoices? {#faq-do-you-issue-vat-invoices}

Yes — I run a registered business and issue VAT invoices for every project. Listed prices are net — VAT is added on top where applicable.

### Do you build WordPress websites? {#faq-do-you-build-wordpress-websites}

I build the frontend in Astro — it's faster, more secure, and doesn't require plugin updates. For content management, I typically use Laravel with FilamentPHP — it offers more flexibility and fewer issues than WordPress. If you prefer the familiar WordPress dashboard, I can connect it as a headless CMS via REST API — combining editing convenience with modern frontend performance.
